PALMA+PB Alliance to strengthen dissemination of dev’t info

LIBUNGAN, Cotabato Province --- Media practitioners, social media handlers, and information officers from the local government units (LGU) comprising the PALMA+PB (Pigcawayan, Alamada, Libungan, Midsayap, Aleosan, Pikit, and Banisilan) Alliance are set to intensify the delivery of developmental stories to the public.

This is to ensure that the public gets timely, accurate, and relevant information about the programs and projects of their LGUs. Also, this is to help LGUs promote and disseminate their development efforts for their respective municipalities.

During the meeting facilitated by the Philippine Information Agency Region XII over the weekend, PALMA+PB project manager Orly Maraingan emphasized the importance of information dissemination to bolster people's awareness on the initiatives and actions of the local government being undertaken for the benefit of its constituents.

Maraingan noted that when information dissemination is strengthened in the areas of PALMA+PB, the people, as well as the LGU will get to monitor where the funds intended for development have been spent.

This is also to counter fake news proliferating nowadays, he added.

With this, Maraingan proposed for the organization of the designated information officers of the component municipalities and social media handlers, including the reactivation of the press corps.

“To properly strengthen the information dissemination, we need to produce excellent, responsive, and credible news and information,” he said, giving emphasis on the significance of organizing said groups, especially the information officers of the municipalities.

Meanwhile, PALMA+PB chairperson and Libungan mayor Christopher Cuan asked for the support of all stakeholders in the efforts to advance the alliance.

“Help us connect the programs to the people. We will do what is best for the people of PALMA+PB,” he said. (PIA COTABATO PROVINCE, MINDANAO EXPOSE')
