Isabela City i-connect youth uses radio program for advocacy efforts

ISABELA CITY, Basilan --- Isabela City i-Connect Youth Network uses the radio as a platform to promote their activities, programs and advocacy.

Mohammad  Ashraf  Abubakar, President of i-Connect Youth Network highlighted during the Laging Handa Network Briefing this morning with PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar how their organization works in Isabela City especially at this time of pandemic.

He said that through their radio program “Vamos Jovenes” at DXNO-FM, they advocate standard health measures and other government initiatives to curb the spread of the coronavirus diseases or COVID-19.

Also on fake news, Abubakar emphasized the importance of verifying news with concerned agencies before dissemination to check the legitimacy of the information and not to cause panic

“Vamos Jovenes” radio program was launched in 2017 with the support of Isabela City Youth Development Alliance, Philippine Information Agency and DXNO Radyo Komunidad. Previously, this was a two-hour program where they can discuss several issues confronting our youth, promote development programs and encourage all youth to be participative in the community.

Due to some challenges and development, previous anchors in the program have grown busy with their studies and other volunteerism engagements. The radio program now is only one-hour however they said that they are doing their job to be more efficient in delivering information.

Aside from this, Abubakar said that they are also very active in terms of advocating programs and projects for environmental protection. He added that they initiated environmental activities like mangrove planting and underwater clean-up drive and more environmental contribution.

Abubakar called on all youth to cooperate with the local government especially this time of pandemic.

“Para sa mga kapwa ko kabataan lalung-lalo na this time of pandemic, be vigilant po  talaga at unang-una po  dapat talaga sundin natin kung ano ang ini-implement ng local government unit. The first thing you can do is sumunod  po tayo sa patakaran, wag na po tayong maging matigas ang ulo”, Abubakar said. (RVC/NDR/PIA9-BASILAN, MINDANAO EXPOSE')
