COTABATO CITY --- The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) is looking at mining as one of the means to help in the economic recovery of the country.
In the LagingHanda Network Briefing with Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar and South Cotabato Mayor Leonard Escobillo, MGB Director Wilfredo Moncano said the mining sector can be a great contributor in recovering economic losses of the country due to the global pandemic brought by COVID-19
“We are looking into several projects that could generate employment, revenues for the government, create programs, and livelihood samga communities where mining is operating,” he said.
He pointed out they have already submitted a recovery program to the Secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), including the Department of Finance (DOF).
“I hope makitasana ng atingmgakababayanna ang ating mining sector makakatulong during this time,” added Dir. Moncano.
He admitted there may be adverse environmental effects in mining but these can be mitigated and reduced, if not zeroed-out.
“’Yong trade-off nito
is makakatulong sa economic recovery ng ating bansa. Sana masuportahan itong
