6th ID holds Islamic symposium

COTABATO CITY --- In a bid to propagate more Islamic knowledge and understand Islam in a correct way, the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division in partnership with the Regional DarulIfta' of  the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) held their First Islamic Symposium last August 11at the Shariff Kabunsuan Complex, ORG Compound in Cotabato City.

The activity was first of its kind where the participants, mostly of different sectors of the society, came from different municipalities.

In his opening statement, A'lim Abdulmuhmin Mujahid, executive director of the Regional DarulIfta'- ARMM, expressed that the First Islamic Symposium will  help address contemporary issues and challenges faced by Filipino Muslims and unite all the Bangsamoro in the region as well as boost good governance in the region.

He also reiterated that the Regional Jurisconsult of the ARMM has issued the Three Ruling or the Fatawa namely: anti-illegal drugs, terrorism or extremism, and the act of bravery.

“The purpose of the Fatawa is to allow the people to choose the right, competent, qualified, and political leader to lead our constituents, communities, and municipalities. We are willing to be your partners, we are ready to work hand in hand with your affairs in our region,” Mujahid said.

Maj. Gen. Edmundo R Pangilinan, commander of the 6th ID, also graced the symposium and served as keynote speaker of the event.

He appreciated the efforts of the Regional DarulIfta' in partnering with them in line with the ongoing reforms and the Kampilan family in performing its mandate of establishing peace and tranquility in its area of operation.

“Even though we come from different tribes or races, we differ from our skin colors, or our age may be far apart from each other, this event is a venue for us to walk hand in hand in achieving what we desire most in the region --- peace,” Pangilinan stressed.

In the open forum, questions and important issues were raised relative to the understanding of Islam and its ways.

The session culminated with Action Reflection and Assessment.

With the positive response of the participants, the symposium encouraged them to further exercise what they learned and experience in the activity.

The participants found the symposium as a valuable and rare opportunity to hear first-hand information about Islam. It was also an eye-opener for them to have learned the peace and development efforts of the government. (CHRISTINE BERNADETTE F. ALMOITE-MINDANAO EXPOSE’)
