In a bid to prepare the possible surge in COVID-19 related cases, the Cotabato
Regional and Medical Center here opened on Wednesday, June 17, its COVID-19
isolation facility extension that will cater to a mild or moderate COVID-19
cases.
The
said facility is made possible through the donations of the International
Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the United Nations Children’s Fund
(UNICEF).
It is
made up of three tents with eight beds per tent. Two of these tents were
donated by ICRC and shall be used to accommodate less critical patients. The
remaining tent, donated by UNICEF, will be used as nurse station and stock
room.
Personal
protective equipment (PPE) have also been made available by ICRC making these
tents fully functional.
Dr.
Helen Yambao, CRMC’s chief of hospital, expressed her gratitude to the UNICEF
and ICRC for their donations that will be of great help to the hospital’s fight
against the dreaded disease.
“These
tents will enable the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center to respond to the
increase in the demands of health care beyond our normal capacity or what is
known as surge capacity,” she stated.
Dr.
Yambao also emphasized that because of these donations, CRMC will be able to
render special services that are needed to manage and treat COVID-19 patients
whether they are suspects, probables, or confirmed patients.
“I
would like to extend our gratitude to ICRC and UNICEF for these facilities, you
are rest assured that they will be put into good use during surge capacity and
even beyond,” she added.
The
isolation facility is located at the Mental Health Unit Compound of CRMC to
house less critical patients. Those COVID-19 patients who are critical will be
brought to the CRMC TB Center which is the main facility that handles critical
