BAGUIO CITY --- Regional police
directors have one week to wipe out illegal gambling operations in their areas.
"I
give you one week. If (illegal gambling in your areas) will not stop, then I
will relieve you," Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Gen. Archie
Gamboa said in a press briefing at the Baguio City Police Office.
He said
regional directors have already benn provided with the list of illegal gambling
operators in their respective areas.
While
noting that there are also police officers involved in illegal gambling and are
in cahoots with operators, he refused to name them.
He
earlier reminded policemen not to take bribes from illegal gambling operators.
The
anti-illegal gambling campaign, aside from the war on drugs, is one of Gamboa's
priorities as PNP chief.
"We
have to convince the people that we are serious on everything, that the PNP
does not protect any illegal activities that other citizens do," he added.
He said
the one-strike policy would be applied to all police unit commanders who will
fail to halt illegal activities such as gambling.
He also
plans to strengthen the PNP's Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group and
the Internal Affairs Service to catch cops protecting gambling lords.
