MAMASAPANO, Maguindanao --- Except for some
petty crimes, the prevailing social climate in the barangay level of this town
is “totally” peaceful as the police also reported a “zero” crime rate since
last January.
The 14
barangay chairmen in this town presented their respective reports and
observations on peace and order and security situationers during the joint
conduct of the 2nd Municipal Peace and Order Council (MPOC) and Municipal
Anti-Drug Abuse Council (MADAC) meeting last February 20 at the Sangguniang
Bayan Conference Room in the Mamasapano Municipal Hall Building.
Municipal Mayor Akmad A. Ampatuan, Jr.
presided over the joint MPOC-MADAC meeting for an over-all assessment of the
state of security in the barangay level and purposely to follow up development
programs and activities related to their anti-crime drive, citing their
concerns on illegal drug trafficking and terrorism.
The barangay officials said they have been closely monitoring
suspicious movements “if any”and illegal activities such as drug abuse and
trafficking and gambling as well as extremism and terrorism, saying “these are
manageable.”
They said their respective Barangay
Peacekeeping Action Team(s) are on active status in the prevention of crimes
and providing security to the population in close partnership with the law
enforcement groups.
There are still a few barangays, though, that have yet to quell the drug
menace with one barangay chairman pointing or identifying a member
of the Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unit as suspect in drug
trafficking. The military and police
have been sought to intervene in this case.
In his report to the MPOC-MADAC meeting,
police OIC chief Lt. Col. Henry P. Biñas
bared 10 recorded crime volume since 2019 and to date, January to February
2020, “we have zero crime rate in our area of responsibility.”
Biñas said: “My over-all assessment on this
locality is generally peaceful considering that no untoward incidents have been
reported… There is no visibility of any illegal drug activity, except for the
reportage of very few barangay officials on this particular case. “
He added that the case of a fire-fight
due to family feud between two warring families and a vehicular accident last
January have been entered into settlement.
Following the presentation of reports,
Mayor Akmad A. Ampatuan, Jr. expressed his thankfulness for the support and cooperation
of the barangay officials as well as the local government personnel, the
different department heads and line-agencies, the different sectors, and the
police and Armed Forces of the Philippines under the headship of Lt. Col. Elmer
Boongaling of the 33rd IB.
“When it comes to peace and order, your
different capacity of support is always
unconditional and unwavering, and this includes your same gesture to the
development programs of our administration,” the mayor said.
Among the attendees to the joint MPOC and MADAC
meeting were Vice Mayor Tahirudin Benzar
A. Ampatuan; Municipal Local Government Operation Officer Edgardo “Egay”
Padolina; Sangguniang Bayan Secretary Julieta D. Tercero; Lt. Col. Elmer M.
Boongaling of the 33rd IB; LGU staff and employees; department
