COTABATO
CITY--August 30-Following a 2015 study
on the state of social enterprise in the Philippines, the British Council has
decided to implement CSO-SEED, a program strengthening civil society
participation in social enterprise education and development.
For
the next three years, the target areas for the project will be communities in
the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. The poverty incidence in the region
has prompted the British Council to strengthen social enterprises that respond
to the pressing needs of a community while alleviating poverty in the process.
The
program hopes to establish an enabling environment for social enterprises,
assist them in tackling issues around decent work, job creation, and enterprise
development, and to provide a seed fund as capital and help enterprises grow
and scale their impact in the community.
The
British Council's implementing partners are Balay Mindanaw, Foundation for a
Sustainable Society, Inc. (FSSI), and the Philippine Social Enterprise Network
(PhilSEN). The program is funded by the European Union and will be carried out
in coordination with the regional government, represented by the Department of
Trade and Industry. (BUREAU OF PUBLIC INFORMATION-MINDANAO EXPOSE’)
