OCD-ARMM HOLDS SUCCESSFUL MEDIA FORUM AND BASIC DRRM ORIENTATION

Datu Odin Sinsuat, MAGUINDANAO- As part of the activities in the month-long observance of the "National Disaster Consciousness Month 2016" covering the entire month of July, this office has successfully conducted a “Media Forum and One-Day Basic Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Orientation” with Media Practitioners from Cotabato City and the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao on 11 July 2016 held at the OCD-ARMM Conference Hall in Camp Siongco, Awang, this town.

Myrna J. Angot, Officer-in-Charge of the OCD-ARMM has expressed her deepest thanks to the Media Practitioners who took part during the conduct of the one-day activity.

“This event is timely and relevant in the autonomous region as we observe NDCM 2016 wherein our main objective is to adequately educate the Media on our various DRR programs and activities,” said Angot.

Media personalities who are present during the orientation includes Erwin Cabilbigan of CNN Philippines, Charlie Señase of Philippine Daily Inquirer, ABS-CBN TV Patrol Central Mindanao Host/Reporter Albashir Saiden, Philippine Information Agency Cotabato Correspondents Perlita Changco and Moning K. Abo, Philippine News Agency Cotabato Correspondent Noel Yuson Punzalan, Rowella Berja Dayawan and Julius Reoyan of Maguindanao Sky Cable TV 3, Brigada News FM Reporter Dennis Arcon, Mindanao Post Reporter Marina Lao, and DG FM Reporter France B. Milla.

Angot said the Media play an important role in the advocacy of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM), and form part of the office's endeavour is to equip the communicators with adequate knowledge on DRR. Further, the fourth estate (Media) also play significant role in leadership in changing the mindset of the society through information, making it more proactive rather than reactive.

“For one thing, understanding the importance of media communication could result to strong internal and external communication and media relations,” said Angot.

Meantime, representatives from partner line agencies who are present during the one-day activity includes DSWD-ARMM DRRM Focal Person Puaza Z. Enok, RPDO-ARMM DRRM Focal Person Palawan Mamaon with Anwar Casimra, DILG-ARMM DRRM Focal Person Mauricio Civiles, DOST-ARMM DRRM Focal Person Jimmy Hedesin with Frediric Cadungog, and PAGASA Cotabato’s Charlyn Jamero and Roy Jumawan.

Earlier, Angot has encouraged various government line agencies in the ARMM to join in the various activities on the observance of the NDCM 2016 with the theme, "Kahandaan at Pagtugon sa Sakuna, Tungkulin ng Bawat Isa". (GILMHAR A. LAO/MINDANAO EXPOSE’)
