COTABATO CITY --- Sultan Usman T.
Sarangani, the vice mayor of Madalum in Lanao del Sur, emerged as president of
the Vice Mayors League of the Philippines for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region
in Muslim Mindanao following separate elections during the joint conduct of the

objective of this organization is to strengthen the camaraderie and to promote
unity and solidarity among the VMLP members and helping each other in
resolving crisis situation.

Davao del Sur, emphasized her thankfulness to all VMLP members, officers, and
organizers for their cooperation and unity in making “this election into a very
successful one.”
“This
is really a historic event. I consider this election a historic, because for the
past three years and even before since the VMLP was organized, there had been
no election because of misunderstanding and disagreements between and among the
VMLP members, the lack of unity and cooperation with each other. But now I’m so
grateful seeing all of us in unity with one common goal in this organization,”
Mejia said.
Sultan
Usman Saranggani also stated his commitment as he extended thankfulness to the
VLMP people “for giving me this opportunity, trust, and confidence… as your new
VMLP regional chairman. And for this, it is my commitment to do the best I
could to realize the cause of the Vice Mayor’s League of the Philippines in the
BARMM. And God willing, I will act as their public servant in realizing the
goals and objectives of the team. I also stand committed to support the
leadership of our VMLP national president Donnabel Joy F. Mejia, because, in me
she is more than qualified to become a national president, and I hope the
members of VLMP will go for the re-election of national president Mejia.”
Further,
he said “I am also committed to help realize the programs of our Chief Minister
Ahod AL-Hadj Murad Ibrahim in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim
Mindanao and our provincial governors, mayors, and also the President’s program
in taking down illegal drugs, corruption, and criminality. We are committed to
help in resolving these problems which our society faces as a dilemma.”
To
his collegues in the BARMM chapter, Sarangani called for the renewal of unity,
solidarity , and camaraderie in an effort to strengthen the league and its
over-all purpose.
He
said he will be consulting with the provincial officers revisit past activities
and see “how we can strengthen our unity and cooperation. I’ll do it and
whatever way I could do it. And God willing, I will also continue the projects
of our outgoing president and if I can add more projects which are acceptable
to the members and for the betterment of our respective municipalities, I
will.”
“Right
now, what I have in mind is to draft the
programs and consult with the officers of every provincial chapter of the League for their comments and
if they are agreeable on the plans and
programs, I would craft them up and pursue them,” he said.
VLMP-BARMM
Vice President Almhedzar Hajiri likewise stated his commitment of support to
the newly elected VLMP president because
as Muslim or as Islam believers “we will show to the entire world that
we are united with one common goal. Unity of all our dear Muslim believers is
the most important factor towards our dreamt of making this region into a more
progressive and developed area so that the community may live peacefully and
happily with no fear in their hearts and mind.” (Anne Acosta)
