SHARIFF AGUAK – The office of Member of Parliament (MP) Abduladzis M. Esmael, Al-Haj provided financial assistance to 60 former combatants of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) on Thursday, June 10, at James Convention, Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao.
A cash support amounting to P5,000 for each recipient aims to provide opportunities for ex-MILF combatants to build their lives with their families and relatives in the mainstream society, especially amidst pandemic.
Chief of Staff Khalid S. Esmael said they can pool the cash aid to their respective cooperatives to grow their funds through possible collaborative efforts in trading and marketing ventures.
“Your cooperative should utilize the cash support judiciously to sustain your enterprises and scale up your capitals. In shaa Allah, it will come to aid your families and your communities in the future,” he said.
Also, Ustadz Abdulmanan Pasigan, political affairs officer IV, reminded everyone that handling of the funds should complement Islamic jurisprudence.
“I am (humbly) hoping that everyone will employ into operational service this good amount of cash adhering to the guidance of Islamic principles,” he said.

“Our (relative) incapacity in accounting and bookkeeping our financial documents put us at risk in the reapplication for the issuance of certificate of compliance (COC). We were not able to access relevant training to capacitate everyone in doing these things,” he said.
Allan Calido, political affairs officer VI, responded by saying that the concern will be immediately forwarded to the Cooperative Development Authority and other agencies for its resolution.
He added that MP Esmael also crafted the Bangsamoro Cooperative and Social Enterprise Code, which could help existing cooperatives in their operations and financial management.
“The bill that we are chiselling now will provide realistic remedies to your concern as it assures all cooperatives are afforded of access to series of training and lectures before formal operations. This is one of the high points of the proposed bill,” he said.
Suharto Esmael also said the Office of MP Esmael will look at possible interventions in delivering instructive training to enable the cooperatives, especially the officers to implement their roles and obligations.
The continuous relief initiatives by the office of MP Esmael aims to improve the quality of life of former MILF combatants who are mostly living below the marginal threshold. (MOHAMADAN ABDULKASAN / MINDANAO EXPOSE’)
