COTABATO
CITY --- In celebration of World Blood Donor Day, the health
office of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) managed
to collect on Wednesday, June 17 at least 43 bags of blood from donors through
a mobile blood donation activity.
The
bloodletting activity took place at the Sharif Kabunsuan Complex, the seat of
the BARMM government here, in coordination with the Cotabato Regional Medical
Center (CRMC).
"We
want to establish a solidarity act, which encourages every family, in a spirit
of unity, and collaboration and empowerment, to voluntarily donate blood and
make it as a way of life," Dr. SaffrullahDipatuan, chief of the Ministry
of Health - BARMM, told reporters during the conduct of the activity.
The
donated blood, collected from donors coming from various BARMM offices, was
turned over to the CRMC for storage and future use.
Dipatuan,
who was also a blood donor during the activity, said the celebration was to
give special appreciation to voluntary non-remunerated blood donors or those
who give their blood without asking for any payment in return.
“The
celebration is also a way of raising awareness on the global need for safe
blood and encourage more people to donate freely,” he said.
Dipatuan
pointed out that blood donors worldwide help save millions of lives every year.
The
World Blood Donor Day is celebrated every June 14.
In
the Philippines, this year’s celebration has for its theme, “Dugoyanihan: Isang
Pamilya, Isang Lahi, Isang Bansa.” (ALBASHIRSAIDEN, PNA, MINDANAO
