Good Samaritans come in crisis situations
There is lesser risks to human lives when natural disasters strike as forewarned in the case of typhoons and volcanic eruptions, but not major earthquakes which recently rocked parts of Mindanao.  Severe disasters exact destructions or tolls but preparedness may tame the loss of human lives. The case of the now scenic but unrestive Taal Volcano has affected a wider area because of spawned toxics other than magma or lava, forcing the lockdown of certain communities.

What if Mount Apo, the highest peak situated in Mindanao, wakes up from dormancy… we pray it would not lest there could be massive evacuation and destruction.

There are losses when disaster strikes and revenues come to drain to address the plights of people affected by the crisis and then financial resources are most wanting for rehabilitation. The cycle rumbles again whenever disaster relooms. But people go on with their lives adapting the point of resiliency… hope is unending.

emotions run high in disaster situations, including the reaching out of assistance for those affected by the holocaust. Without calling, volunteers come to aid as relief goods and evacuation paraphernalia flow from the “Good Samaritans.” The aiding social aspect is a show of concern and compassion that there is always someone for us when needed most. But aiding gestures come as temporal with post-disaster rehabilitation process the more stringent because of costs for reconstruction and restart of human living.

The flow of assistance to disaster-stricken population is much appreciated, especially when some of the evacuees are invited to be sheltered at the homes or space properties of the Good Samaritans. The reaching hands are acts of genuine humanness and are manifestations of love and concern. May this human act continue to prevail whenever our neighbors, though far are their regions, run into a distressed or perturbed situation.

The adage “people need people” always come to fore when the circumstance arises. In return, what help and compassion are given may likely beget the same gesture when the giver stumbles also in distress.

What is important in time is disaster preparedness. Disaster experiences have now given us the edge how to respond to the crisis and the needs to be served as inputs in such situation during evacuation and sheltering of the affected population. Foremost now is the sighting and construction of evacuation shelters equipped with decent facilities to comfort the receivers. Local government units have to come out with a physical outlay to shelter evacuees and not contend with school premises because the latter are not for such purpose. Yes, the government needs financial resources in the provision of disaster-evacuation centers.

We thank the people for their passion to help those stricken by natural disasters. Such generosity is awarded in distinct ways.
