EWS SENSITIVITY FOR ADOPTABILITY
How are we receptive to news and information? How abreast are we in current events in the backdrop of modern communication? Some news and information are supposed to elicit certain behavioral tendencies to solve situations in a way or another.

Take a look on these four news headlines flashed over DZRH radio-television as gathered from national dailies: (1) CNN flies over the Amazon: ‘All you can see is death.” (2) Government has 199K job vacancies. (3) DOH seeks P19.-B for medicines, but solon warns of wastage. (4) 9.9-M Pinoys are binge drinkers.

So what about these? On the first, the vast Amazon rain forest, located in Brazil, is burning at a high rate. Take note, this forest absorbs carbon dioxide (air pollution) and supplies 20 percent of the global oxygen. If the forest fire is not contained, it will affect the world’s supply of oxygen and worsen the condition of climate change in which the Philippines is one of three countries worst hit by such severe weather phenomenon, even our nation is hot highly industrialized.

On the second, job vacancies are up for grabs for employment seekers who should be very alert where to find these opportunities or else be left idle. Some may have to move out just to be employed, including going overseas if at all qualified based on credentials.

On the third, audit report indicated that millions of peso worth of medicines are left to rot in storage and when expired are thrown away and the irresponsible wastage deprives the needy of these stuffs, especially stocks for barangay health centers. It’s wise to have buffer stocks for purposes of replenishments and for emergencies, but goods not immediately disposed will go rotten and, thus,  result to shortages or losses inimical to vital health.  The agency has to explain these losses or so-called mismanagement of supplies because of prolonged storage and delayed distribution.  Those responsible for the losses have to be sanctioned.

And on the fourth, it is reported that 78 percent of males and 22 percent of females are alcoholic drinkers. Medical specialists caution us to be careful on this vice as this would affect mental health and complicate ailments associated with diabetes, hypertension, and cardio-vascular. Moderation is always the recommendation. Alcohol drinking is associated with peer influence and stress… but there are more beneficial activities to offset the vice and stay healthy.

Current events are not just informative but in many cases accompanied by advisories such as motions for environmental care, healthy living, work or employment security as well as business ventures for economic mainstay and life convenience. We have to heed on advisories requiring adoptation of  measures to a changed situation. Life is full of adjustments as people are confronted with environmental alterations. We have to continually be adoptive or adaptive with the changing scenario ensure quality life existence and be at peace with the environs.
