MANILA --- The Office of Civil Defense (OCD)
in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) shares another round of
accomplishment following the proclamation of Myrna J. Angot as “DND Model
Supervisor 2017.”
Angot, who is
currently the Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) division chief, was the
sole awardee from the OCD under the supervisor category where she was awarded
by Secretary Delfin Lorenzana of the Department of National Defense during
awarding rites held at the AFP theatre last November 6.
Angot has been
with the OCD for almost two decades from November 18, 1998 to date as a permanent
employee showing flexibility and incomparable commitment in the line of service
at what they say, at the most ‘challenging’ region in the country, where the
dynamics and culture are diverse in all aspects and with the recurring armed
conflicts in the area of responsibility.
For one thing, the
OCD has been a “true home” to her and during her humble beginnings as a civil defense
officer, she has treated everyone as part of her family.
She has
consistently observed optimum work ethics, professionalism, and commitment, and
has never complained even as she worked beyond the number of hours required by
the Civil Service Commission (CSC).
Jokes would
usually buzz up around the circle that when you are with the OCD, there are no “week-ends’
or holidays.”
As the officer-in-charge
of OCD-ARMM since July 2014, Angot expressed leadership excellence as a team
player and achieved highest flexibility in supervision and management of
disaster response and humanitarian endeavours amidst complexities of the
situation in an armed-conflict area.
In addition, she
has pro-actively worked with other partners and stakeholders in implementing
the plans and programs on Disaster Risk Reduction, focusing on the four
thematic areas: Disaster Preparedness, Disaster Prevention and Mitigation,
Disaster Response, and the Disaster Rehabilitation and Recovery.
This lady leader
has truly met the agency’s objectives and deliverables.
As a supervisor,
Angot continually inspires her co-workers with her warmth, wisdom, and kindness
despite going through a tough time. She has built strong relationship and
strengthened humanitarian partnerships to achieve “long term” community
resilience.
Here are some of
her notable accomplishment as a civil servant: disaster manager at the Task
Force Bangon Marawi as a result of the Marawi City Siege which erupted last May
2017; disaster manager at the Mamasapano clash incident that occurred during a
police operation on January 25, 2015 at Tukanalipao, Mamasapano, Maguindanao; contributor
to the ARMM Contingency Plan “OPLAN MALASUBA;” and disaster manager at various
recurring armed conflicts/natural disaster in the ARMM.
As to her other
credentials, she underwent aComprehensive Disaster Risk Training in Japan in
2016; attended the First Forum on Forecast-Based Emergency Preparedness for
Climate Risk;formed a National Platform for Sharing Risk Policies, Assessing
Early Warning System; took part at the Sunset Review and Revision Workshop/Writeshop
on the Implementing Rules and Regulation of Republic Act 10121 Mindanao Cluster; and underwentTraining
Workshop on the Protection of Internally Displaced Persons.
“I am overwhelmed
with this newest recognition. I also offer this award to my fellow Office of
Civil Defense-ARMM workers. Our efforts and hardships through the years have
truly paid off. Thank you DND for this wonderful once in a lifetime experience.
I feel deeply honoured and blessed,” Angot said. (GILMHAR A. LAO - MINDANAO EXPOSE’)
