MAMASAPANO, Maguindanao --- This municipal
government conducted drug-testing to its 147 illegal drug surrenderees last
October 5 at the municipal gymnasium in a bid to make the town “drug-free.”
Police Senior Inspector Regie Albellera said they
have listed a total of 147 drug surrenderees in the town.
“There was one barangay with no illegal drug
surrenderee,” he said.
Albellera emphasized that the purpose of the
activity is to ensure that the drug surrenderees are not back into their wrong-doing.
“We have been conducting regular meetings
with the Municipal and Barangay Anti-Drug Action Councils. We also do rounds of
constant monitoring. Islamic symposium and values formation are also being
undertaken. The families of the surenderees also participate as we go through
with the house visitations. We continually encourage them to do good,” he said.
Mayor Tahirodin Benzar said they hope that
all surrenderees would turn out “negative” after the drug testing.
“Through this test, we will know if they
truly turned their backs on illegal drugs. Soon as they turn out negative, we
will push for our barangays to be finally drug-cleared,” Mayor Ampatuan said. (GILMHAR
