CAMP SIONGCO, Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao  --- The Army’s 602nd Brigade intercepted a bombing plot when improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were found at  Sitio Galay of Barangay Kibayao in Carmen, North Cotabato last May 29.
Five IEDs were found inside a bag by the combined troops of the 7th Infantry
Battalion and 62nd Division Reconnaissance Company of the 602nd Brigade left by two men riding on a motorcycle.

A civilian informant relayed an information to the Army that two unidentified perpetrators will transport IEDs from Barangay Tonganon to Barangay Kibayao of Carment town. This prompted the troops to launch an operation to neutralize the terror plot.

The perpetrators were able to escape upon seeing the military checkpoint 500 meters away and left the bag on the roadside.

After the area was secured by the troops, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and K-9 Unit of the Army executed safety procedures and found inside the bag the IEDs made of 81mm mortar and several IED components.

Last May 27, a bombing attack was pre-empted when an IED was found by the government troops in front of a school in Tacurong City.

The commander of the 6th Infantry Division, Brig. Gen. Cirilito E. Sobejana, said the series of bombing plots were meant to create terror in his area of jurisdiction.

“I congratulate the troops for their fast action to pre-empt the series of bombing attempts,” said Sobejana.

He also commended the cooperation of the civilians for being vigilant and immediately reported the incident to the military. (ODPA, 6th ID/MINDANAO EXPOSE’)
