DATU SAUDI AMPATUAN (DSA), Maguindanao
--- This municipality
held last January 15 its Municipal Peace and Order Council (MPOC) meeting
participated by town officials and local authorities.
Capt. Rolando
Ocharan of the 2nd Mechanized Battalion said it has been their
continuing campaign of intensifying law enforcement operation against terrorist
organization, illegal drugs, and theproliferation of illegal firearms as well
as the conduct of “Ugnayan sa Paaralan”
and “Ugnayan sa Barangay.”
Police Inspector Abdulbasit
Kulod, chief of police of Datu Saudi Ampatuan, updated the MPOC members about the
peace and order situation, crime volume, and accomplishments.
“The peace and
order in this municipality remains stable though there were cases of quarrel
which resulted commonly to “rido.” However, it does not affect the peaceful
situation in the area of the locality. The crime volume remains stable,” Kulodreported.
The MPOC strongly
recommend to puta proper “land mark” at the boundaries of this locality,
particularly between Barangay Salbu and Barangay Bagan to avoid “throwing of
responsibilities” when an incident occurs.
“There is a need
to maintain proper coordination of different line-agencies in every activity
undertaken by the LGU… especially when it needs participation of the security
forces in the area,” Kulod said.
It was moved into
motion that a resolution be passed for the Armed Forces of the Philippines to
intensify the zoning operations in all barangays to support the 2nd Mechanized
Battalion.
Previously, indigenous
Teduray shave been displaced by deadly attacks by the Bangsamoro Islamic
Freedom Fighters (BIFF) and are reluctant to return to their homes for fear of
their safety.
More than a
thousand Teduray families were forced to abandon their homes when BIFF gunmen
attacked their villages around Mount Firis in Maguindanao province last
December, setting houses on fire and laying improvised explosive devices along
farm trails to prevent them from coming back.
Accordingly, the
BIFF gunmen who harassed them repeatedly last month would come back and again
drive them away once they return to their tribal enclaves at Mount Firis.
Mount Firis is a
sacred site for Tedurays. It is in the heart of their ancestral homeland
surrounded by Maguindanao’s adjoining Datu Unsay, Shariff Aguak, South Upi, and
Datu Saudi towns.
It was learned
that the trouble there is not about land ownership. There are no Christian
outsiders grabbing lands there as alleged. All the people affected by the
trouble are ethnic Tedurays, no one else.
Mayor Bai Anida Dimaukom
said the municipal government extended assistance to the internally displaced
persons by provision of relief packs.
“The municipal
government is ready to help in case we are needed,” Mayor Dimaukom said. (GILMHAR A. LAO &
