Humanitarian organizations, ARMM celebrate World Humanitarian Day

Several international and local humanitarian organizations working in the ARMM and in Mindanao marked the celebration of the United Nation's (UN) World Humanitarian Day (WHD) on Friday, August 19, 2016.

Mukhtar Farah, UN OCHA Cotabato Office head, said the WHD was aimed at "recognizing the humanitarian workers who have risked their lives in order to provide humanitarian assistance of people around the world - those who are in need."

Atty. Laisa Alamia, ARMM executive secretary, said the ARMM "will continue to improve its mechanisms of support and response in all cases of humanitarian cases through the support and help of our partners."

The organizations also commended the ARMM government for its valuable humanitarian aid provided to the needy in the ARMM through its Humanitarian Emergency Action Response Team.

The celebration was hosted by the ARMM and was initiated by the Mindanao Humanitarian Team headed by UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. A week-long photo exhibit was also opened today at the Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Complex at the region's seat in Cotabato City. (BUREAU OF PUBLIC INFORMATION-MINDANAO EXPOSE’)
